'Vasily Yevmenovich' would be a more commonly used transliteration, but there are dozens of transliteration variations out there.filo ha scritto:

Posthumous ORB to Private Frolov
It seems that citations from the summer months of 1941 are generally the most horrible, intense, and grim. Although the Soviets fought some vicious battles later on, many of the 1941 citations really give a sense of the desperation and tenacity exhibited during the war. I came across this posthumous...

Correct, he is in Nepomnyashchy's book. He was a Guards Senior Lieutenant in the Independent Coastal Army. There's a chance his name is actually Markov; there was a Guards Senior Lieutenant Georgy Illarionovich Markov - (Марков Георгий Илларионович 1918) who was awarded a Red Banner on December 29, ...

Soviet military award research
Hi all, Several forum members have asked my to advertise my research service here, so here it goes. The service offered is for all Soviet-era military orders and medals from 1941 to 1991 (including the 1985 jubilee OPW). The research usually takes approximately 1 to 2 weeks. If multiple record cards...

I don't think so, it doesn't look like the Umalatova medals I've handled. Just a 'regular' fake.

It seems he was alive as recently as the end of last year, yes :( Seems no one in his family wants to honour his memory... sad That's what I was thinking of... one thing is sure: it is by far safer in your closet - and I suppose for long long years - than in a garbage. Families without memory disgu...

I know I have said this before, but I would like to stress the importance of decent translations once again. Its a crucial part of the research process. Sure, a poor translation still allows you to get the gist, but how do you know what exactly you're missing when you don't speak Russian fluently? Y...

It seems the central display shows Konev's awards, but the uniform has to be Rokossovsky's. His is the only award combination that fits. Just like Konev he was a MSU, seven-fold Lenin recipient, and Order of Victory winner, but he had been awarded six Red Banners. The curious thing is that he has TW...

There are two options: - His first RB was a 'regular' RB and his second RB had a numerical shield ("2") - Both his first and second RB were 'regular' awards (without numerical shields) The state wouldn't have taken back his first RB and they certainly wouldn't have issued three separate de...

Sì. Citazioni sono state scritte due o tre volte e in alcuni casi due copie dello stesso citazione hanno fatto la loro strada verso il sito.

"Partorg Rankskaya Volost, Kuldigskii Uezd, Latvian SSR. [...] Latvian SSR, Kuldigskii Uezd, Rankskaya Volispolkom"
Does this make any sense in English?

A good example of why it's so important to use the services of a competent translator. Literal word-for-word translations rarely make any sense. In this case I don't think it's possible to convey the meaning of "kontrolnyi plennyi" in just one or two words. I would go with "prisoner w...

The citation simply says 'crosses', so it could have been an EK1 and EK2 plus a KVK or Ehrenkreuz or something along those lines.
