Grazzie for kind comments!

I'd say higher stuf than DDR and Poland, but lower quality than Czesch. And far from soviet medals. I must talke better close-ups!

DDR was so simple...good but not so extraordinary, a medium-high level, poland's better than DDR but simple, probably at the same level of Bulgaria.
Czech's orders are extraordinary and Soviet was a masterpiece. Romania was good, Jugoslavia maybe was the most near at the soviet's standars.
Albania was the worst...

Interesting thread. Please let me know if I am wrong with my comment. It appears to have worked within the security departments in BM II and III during his career. Nice addition to your collection.

Were you able to find the rest of his awards and add them to your collection since this thread was last updated? :-)

Honors For Excellent Service Merit Medal 1960
Service Merit Medal 1975 (25 years old)
The Golden Degree of Merit for His Home Service in 1969

Saddly no!

About the Beluggyminusterium, or Minsitry of Interior, I don't remember, to be frankly. I only remember he was an academy professor.

I must work again a correct translation of the online biographie found in Hungary, but hungarian syntax is a big concern for most automatic translators...

I started a new - approximative - translation : you're perfectly right about the numerous indications of time spent in the famous Ministry of interior. This guy also knew hard times under Rakosy's rule.

Gents, you'll find supra a rough english translation of his online hungarian file.

There are many translation problems (Hungarian is a complex agglutinating langage, in which words "glue" or assemble together to form a new meaning different from former separate meanings: automatic translators hate that! ).

I have to show some sentences to an hungarian friend.

Thank you Ralph for stimulation; this discussion led to open a whole new field of historical facts about this man.

Looks like this officer knew a juridical career comparable to his DDR colleagues graduated from Postdam MfS academy.

I am really glad to read that you have more specific background history on Gidal. And also interesting to read that he went to higher level of school in East Germany, very interesting. And this for sure fits when you read more about the Hungarian intelligence and security relationship with the MfS.

komsomol, when you add STASI Decorations and Memorabilia Volume III to your reference library, you will also like and find of interest the Hungarian grouping in chapter 33.

CONGRATS!!!
