Guy smiling in front of a burning building. Now that's a bit of a weird image..
(Again really DDR looking suspension).

By the way, nice medal!
We don't see cuban stuff very much, and this is a pity!

Re: Medalla Frank Pais
Frank Pais (1934-1957) was the organizer of the urban underground resistance of the 26th of July momement. He was the leader of the uprising in Santiago de Cuba, so it could be the clue for the palace in flames. He was killed by Police agents of Baptista.GC* ha scritto:Guy smiling in front of a burning building. Now that's a bit of a weird image..

I believe some pieces are east-german. Do Berlin Mint coined some medals? Maybe. There seems to be at least 2 manufacture variants: soldered ring and stamped ring. But it's going to be complex to determine.
This medal has a deep- mattish gold-plating, and a pin typical of 70ies DDR products. But the ring is stamped.
DDR stuf had not stamped rings... all neatly soldered...
BTW, is this little girl norvegian? Does she listen to black metal?

Re: Medalla Frank Pais
All very interesting!
I didn't know his story and your explanations, plus the discussion of similarities & differences with standard East German production is really very useful.
As you said, making sense of these medals will be extremely difficult. You're the first who brings them around and I really have no idea of where sources could be found to study these.
Anyway, great!

Re: Medalla Frank Pais
Not a lot of sources!
But a citizen of Latvia tried to fill the gap:
http://cubamedals.info/
This book is worth buying. But the author claims there are not enough infos about orders to justify a dedicated book - for the moment.
