I know that this is really not a forum for my question. But I also know that medal collectors are a helpful bunch of people.
Anyway my question is this: Is it possible to find a person awarded by the Pope in 1870? I have read a story about a Swede who claimed to have been awarded several orders by the Pope after the war in 1870 and now I wonder if his claims are true. Are there any records available? I have been in contact with the secret archive at the Vatican, but records are only searchable by name from about 1900.One of the orders also came with nobility. Maybe there are some lists with people of nobility?
Any suggestion how to proceed would be appreciated.
