Here are a few examples of the NKPS Soviet State Railways star - Model of of 1932. I believe that these were in use until 1943.

This first example is a large size, 38MM, presumably for use on winter headgear - such as is vaguely shown here:

They 28MM size are not really very scarce, they can be had from time to time. However, the 38MM size I have only seen offered ONE time - and it was I who grabbed it...

The 38mm one is a star I never even had the chance to observe on auction sites!

I myself have a 28mm one in my collection, but remain on the hunt for any possible additions.

Would be really great to find a photo in which the larger star is shown in detail on a winter cap!

I collect photos also. I use them to reference uniforms, insignia, weapons and equipment - and the abiding by/breaking regulations... It is my second specialty. Perhaps someday I'll come accross a better image of the large star in use.

In the meantime, show us your 28MM star. What are you waiting for?

Colleziono anche foto. Io li uso per riferimento uniformi, insegne, armi e attrezzature - e i regolamenti onesti di / rottura... È la mia seconda specialità. Forse un giorno verrò attraverso una migliore immagine della grande stella in uso.

Nel frattempo, mostraci la tua stella 28MM. Cosa stai aspettando?

Here it comes! Nothing too spectacular (and even rather lame pictures ), but still a star I very much like!

Giovanni, It is still a nice star despite the photos. I have a special place in my passionate collecting heart for Railways items. You'll see at some point in the future.

In any case, here is another 28MM example that has appeared where I was not looking a few days ago when I created this thread.

A bit of plating loss on the obverse, but nice wet-looking enamel and both attaching prongs intact.

Giovanni, è ancora una bella stella nonostante le foto. Ho un posto speciale nel mio cuore appassionato di raccolta per gli elementi delle ferrovie. Vedrete ad un certo punto in futuro.

In ogni caso, ecco un altro esempio di 28MM che è apparsa dove non stavo cercando un paio di giorni fa, quando ho creato questo thread.

Un po' di perdita di placcatura sul dritto, ma bello smalto aspetto bagnato ed entrambi rebbi collegando intatti.

A very nice display Richie! Do you collect "only" badges or also uniforms? And what about the period: do you prefer NKPS or do you look also for MPS items?

Thank you. I am very interested in the Soviet State Railways in general, but only through the 1950s as far as uniforms, awards, insignia, photos and etc. are concerned.

Finalmente posso contribuire a questa discussione con qualcosa di degno di nota. Ecco qui il mio ultimo acchiappo: una stupenda stella NKPS con costruzione a due parti. Mancano le stanghette di fissaggio e lo smalto è danneggiato in alcuni punti..ma contando che sono riuscito a comprarla ad un prezzo decisamente basso..non mi lamento!

Eventually I can contribute to this topic with something worthy of interest. Here comes my last purchase: an amazing NKPS two-piece construction star. Prongs are missing and the enamel is damaged in a few places..however, taking into account that I made it to get this beauty for really low price, I feel I cannot complain at all!

A parte le stanghette non mi pare molto rovinata, anzi.

I would not complain at all... That is quite an interesting piece to say the least. I have not seen the likes of it at anytime in the past. Very nice find!

Non mi lamenterei affatto... che è piuttosto un interessante pezzo a dir poco. Non ho visto artisti del calibro di a in qualunque momento nel passato. Molto bello trovare!

Variation is natural. Cap stars aren't state awards made in just one place but uniform insignia made by a bunch of makers. All this makes a lot of variations for the collector and of course headaches.

I was going to post my railroad stars... then you posted THAT collection Richie. Now my stars are just a foot note. Ah, I'll post them anyway.

I wouldn't define them footnote at all dear Kimj! In fact I think the first two of your stars are supremely interesting. Both display a beautiful and rare two-piece construction (me and Richie discussed about that in the posts above, commenting a two-piece construction railroad star I had the luck to catch). The first one in particular seems to have some for of poorer quality enamel/paint if compared to the other models (which makes it even more interesting to me).

A great addition to the forum and to our knowledge of these beautiful cap stars!

Eccone un'altra. Uno dei mille modelli che esistono e il terzo che ora possiedo in collezione. L'elemento più d'interesse è il fatto che nella punta superiore della stella è presente un "avanzo" di metallo non rifinito. Appare come se la stella fosse fatta a pendente e che l'ovale di metallo sia stato poi tranciato. Naturalmente immagino si tratti di un semplice difetto di mancata rifinitura.
