It is just gorgeous, Auke! The suspension rings are the evolution of the U shape type, do you know when they went into production? I would guess mid-fifties.
I think you're right. If we look at the classifications used by the Mondvor website, this "flat ring" variation always comes before the "round ring" variation (as posted by SergioV), suggesting that the "flat ring" variation was manufactured earlier. Moreover, the 250th Anniversary of Leningrad Medal for example, which was instituted in 1957, only has a "flat ring" variation. I think this type of ring was used from roughly 1947 / 1948 through the 1950s.

Grazie.

Nothing to worry about, the medal is genuine. Many were produced, therefore many different dies were used; sometimes, there are minor differences between them.
Andreas, I can't see your point here. Mondvor says that early 3rd classes had no mint mark until serial n. 46,864. Your specimen is well inside the range.
It looks all nominal to me. Very nice and rare order, congrats!
Very nice specimen Alfred (as always!), genuine without doubt in my opinion: type 1 var.1 according to Mondvor. Serial number is 40671 (look at number "1". it's peculiar!), i can't see problems because is inside the range (100 -46864).
