Soviet Dagger (Kortik)
Soviet Dagger (Kortik)
Hello,
got this navy dagger a few weeks ago.
There is no button to hold the blade in the blade case. So this should be a (pre)war modell (before 1946).
There is also no number (not sure if it has gone because the engraving was very light done?) and no marker mark on the blade.
Looks like the ship and the anchor are engraved on the blade case.
The star on the top of the pommel screw is attached saperately (not one part as on later daggers).
Looks like the state symbol on the handle was removed (clearly traces of abrasive paper).
Any thoughts to this piece?
best regards and thanks

Re: Soviet Dagger (Kortik)
Andreas,
I think that it is genuine, and that it was used after 1992 in one of the ex-republics (did I say Ukraine ?). Most likely the coat of arms of the USSR was removed after independence in order for it to be used then.
Now, as far as I know, there should nevertheless be at least a maker's mark on the blade. Can you take it apart (unscrew the button where the star is) and check if there are any marking on the upper part of the blade.

Thanks for the answers.

That would explain the removed coat of arms.
In 1941, 1942 and 1943 most of the produced daggers had no factory mark and no producing year (3NK or NM3) but I do not know any example
without serial number. Maybe the serial number is gone during the time, due to using.
check if there are any marking on the upper part of the blade.
Will do pictures in the next days. I checked it a few weeks ago and there were one figure and a few signs on the upper part of the blade.
best regards
Andreas

Looks like a 20 , a 1 and a IYI ist stamped in the upper part of the blade.

Re: Soviet Dagger (Kortik)
Got this answer: Это технологические метки, для того, чтоб проще было собирать.
