Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
Grazie mille.

Ciao a tutti.
Re: Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
This is a total enigma for me as it combines traditionnal coat of arms and a socialist star on the reverse, with a personnal engraving as a gift for a soldier...
Re: Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
This surely is a quite interesting medal - and I really wouldn't know its name - but as for the period, we can safely date it to 1946-48.
Hungarian socialist simbology, pretty much as most socialist simbology, was prolific and sometimes confusing. Especially in the People's Republics, where actual popular front coalitions progressively gave way to bogus coalitions hegemonised by the communist parties and then to full Sovietisation, the simbological transition was a critical affair.
Coming back to our medal, we clearly see on its front the coat of arms of the Second Hungarian Republic, 1946-48, which preserved the traditional Hungarian simbology, but eliminated all monarchical references. On the reverse we do have a socialist symbol, but that is no state flag, nor it would have ever been. That was the Party flag of the Hungarian Working People's Party, Hungary's version of the communist party, which remained active for less than a decade between 1948 and 1956. Just to make it a bit more clear, let me post here a general recap of Hungarian flags and coat of arms in the 20th century.

Re: Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
Grazie ! Quindi il davanti è del periodo 1946 - 1948 ed il retro 1948 - 1956 ?
Ciao a tutti.
Re: Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
Thank you GC, your datas are bright! I would bend towards a 1946-48 medal, with old republican coat of arms.
Re: Medaglia ungherese socialista ?
