I don't believe they used cloth, somebody actually took sandpaper to it or something similar.

Al retro il seriale è stato accuratamente spianato, la doratura è molto buona e omogenea (le foto ingannano)
fatta in tempi non recenti, avendo gia' un patina gradevole.

La mia domanda è perché fare tutto ciò.

I really don't like it: proposed on "E" for 371usd, it seems that all usefull details have been artificially scratched (with sandpaper???) to hide the defects on external rim and letters.

Secondo voi è originale o qualcuno ha cancellato il seriale ?

Esistono senza numero e costano care, sono una sorta di "rarita' filateliche", rare non per il basso numero di esemplari realizzati ma per un errore nella produzione. In questo caso mi sembra che il seriale sia stato abraso ad arte, anche se dalla foto non si vede bene.

Your pictures are definitely not the best, but it seems to me that the original serial number was erased on this order.
