I was doing some reading about the Order of St. George Cavaliers who also received Soviet awards, and found this interestiong photo. It depicts Lt. General Khizhniak, participant of the Civil War and WWII.

What do you think about this photo (there is a catch ;) )?

Yup, you guess it [264 The photo I have posted is a fake. I don't think there are any photos of him wearing his St. George awards and Soviet awards.

Here in case the topic of Soviet Officers and Soldiers wearing Tsarist decorations is of interest.

Сергей Никитин Никитович, Sergei Nikitin Nikitovich in two pre and post-war photos, best way to notice the change in attitude of Soviet authorities towards Tsarist decorations.

Константин Недорубов Иосифович, Konstantin Nedorubov Iosifovich, Don Cossack and Hero of the Soviet Union. A "полный Георгиевский кавалер", full Knight of the Order of St. George.

Here his monument in Stalingrad.

Here a quite unusual photo of Marshal of the Soviet Union Budyonny, wearing his Tsarist decorations.

Here Андрей Георгиевич Серга, Andrej Georghievich Serga (and his story http://7mehkorpus.odessa.ua/sostav/serga_biogr.html ).

Finally, how a St. George cross fits on a Soviet sailorman's outfit!

During the War they were not prohibited, hence allowed. At the same time there were no official regulations on wearing them, so cavaliers wore them as they pleased.

Here Андрей Георгиевич Серга, Andrej Georghievich Serga - He is actually wearing an Officers' St. Cross and a Soldiers' St. Cross, awarded to an officer by soldiers' consent. Wow!!
