Dear colleagues,
you are aware of the new law adpoted in Ukraine about forbidding all communist symbols in the public sphere.
Of course I don't attend to start a political discussion and I don't want political arguments (in this public topic).
I would only know some opinions about:
-Do you believe it will have an incidence on collecting? (the ukrainian market would be highly disturbed or not)
-Do you have some echoes from fellow collectors on the ukranian and russian net (others forums or physical contacts)?

It is legit to ask since it can affect our hobby.
At the moment i heard no voices about honors and other stuff but it will be no surprise to me if there will be a ban on carrying medals and orders too.
I don't know any Ucranian so i cannot ask directly, maybe someone on the forum has first hand news...

In France we can sell third reich stuff, but seller must hide the swastikas. It is always done by means of a simple sticker or piece of paper. And everybody is happy.
Maybe should we anticipate such a thing?
To this day, on aukro.ua (ukraina), there is a much soviet stuf as before.

I believe nothing at all will happen in regards to trading Soviet and Nazi militaria (the new Ukrainian laws ban both Communist and Nazi symbols).
The past 9th of May saw the traditional Victory Day celebrations in many Ukrainian cities and all sort of Communist symbology was there. Maybe that could change in the future, but I am pretty sure veterans will never be forbidden to wear their medals..and that trade will continue!!
P.s. Germany is the country that enforces the strictest ban on Nazi symbology, which is often removed even from movie posters and nevertheless, Nazi militaria is (actually increasingly) being sold on flea markets, most of the times but not always with the swastika hidden. I doubt Ukraine will prove stricter than Germany..

In Spain, many Ukrainians who live here, have call to fight the Russians. They cannot deny, they will be arrested.
Although the communist symbols is prohibited, it will be a big market for collectors ... sure.
In Spain it is mainly collects items of the Third Reich. Also Spanish military, some minority Soviet and then other things.

The new law is the result of the war in Ukraine. In another forum someone married to a Ukrainian woman she told that at this particular time they see in the Soviet symbols the symbols of Russian oppression.
But it is one thing to prohibit the symbols now and another thing the fact to commercialize them.

I don't think that there will be problems. That's a political manuveur to remark the political and storic separation by the Russian sphere. In the Est of Europe the Russian Federation it's a Soviet Union with different flag, so for the new Ukranian governament the ban of communist's symbols is not for a intimate feelings of the Ukranian people bout their own history, but is a gesture to make the break with Russia deeper. For this reason I'm sure that anyone will create problem if a seller use sovietic medals for business...surely many Lenin's monuments will fall down but in the private sphere nothing will change.
For Germany is different. Nazionalsocialism is for the 99% of the Germans a deep shame. A cultural and storical dark piece of German history so you will not find in a easy way a german that will expose (for cultural\collectibles reason) swastikas and nazi simbols.
For the same motive the militaria shop have to cancel or remark with a romboidal form the swastika on the medals or uniforms. It's a way to say "We've erased everything, between 1933-1945 anyone of us have stayed here". Maybe it's a strange way to erase the past but we're not here for speakin about the German consciousness.
In the end, the swastika is impossible to sell in Germany for deep and realistic reasons, hammer and sickle in Ukraina will have the normal market because the reason is bigger and political, too much bigger for losin time on a 50 euros sovietic medals...
That's my opinion and this are the reasons for it.
