Hello,

what do you think about this center medaillion?

I do not like it. Looks like a casted copy.

best regards and thanks
Andreas

Hi Andreas, I am not so convinced it is a cast, are you in position to verify whether it is silver or not?

There are plenty of differences in the small details which prevent from saying that the two pictured items are from the same variation. Nevertheless, they might be from two different dies, I am not an expert on this. It is well possible that the suspicious Nevski is a fake, in this case it find it more credible than the average copies I am able to identify.

Guys, I 've got the feeling those defects are beyond the case of coin ageing...

Look at the second letter "L": what could be the logical explanation for an "half-stamped" letter?

A used coin would produce a whole used letter, and a scratch or ageing process due to wearing would not have chosen the precise half of a letter...
Same reasoning avalaible for other letters with missing parts (the "E", the "K")...

And I don't like the thin rim bording the outer big rim of the medaillon, next to the second sylab of "Aleksandr" ("EK")

In my opinion, it's the second type. download/file.php?id=165428 and the comparison is not correct. [204  download/file.php?id=165427

In conclusion, for me, [saput (IMHO,) the medallion is good.

I also think it is good. It would be just interesting to know whether its conditions are due to wear in combat rather than negligence or disrespect.

I saw many types of oxydation in different speciments of the same order, often in the same showcase. What affect the silver oxydation and in wich way is one of the great mysteries of life :D . Personally, my problem with the oxydation is when this happen on a gilded surface... cleaning a tin gold layer always scares me.
