Russian M36 sniper tunic and camo
Inviato: mar lug 03, 2007 1:50 am
Good Evening Gentlemen,
I posted these pics on another wonderful militaria site and thought I would share them with you as well. This is the M36 dress tunic with the crimson sniper stripe down the front. Many times the dress insignia was worn into combat when muted/subdued insignia was not available. I don't think this tunic was ever worn into combat because it is too clean! The crimson stripe may be a reproduction or applied after the war...maybe. If so, they did a good job at aging it. The tunic and insignia are original. Webster and Nelson have an example in their Russian Uniform book. The camo spoke is the "leaf pattern" developed in 1941-42. These leaf pattern smocks are not pictured very often, but are period to WW2. Dennis Desmond, in his book "Camouflage Uniforms of the Soviet Union and Russia" states that these smocks were in use into the 50's and 60's. Romania received an allocation of these as well postwar. Evidently, there are variations to these smocks much like the Heer or SS smocks.
Thanks for looking, Arditi
