Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
To some, this may seem to be a redundant showing. For the remainder; I have always thought this to be an interesting area of collecting.
So, as the availability of authentic wartime items has been far and few between, I have given much attention to it and have accumulated a few pieces.

Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
Tankist - perhaps late 40X? Made by Karl Berger with early/mid 50X Soviet made star. I especially like the German style chinstrap.

Tankist - 1940s/50s. I purchased this some years ago as a private Austrian hat maker made piece. Even the chinstrap and visor are not typical of Soviet make. The quality is impeccable and something I would expect from a German haberdasher.
The star is a Soviet made example from the prewar/early wartime years - Model of 1939.

Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
I believe that this one is German factory made. But by whom?
The plastic chinstrap is very unusual, and I think original to the cap, along with it's buttons, which are German made and dated 1947.
The star is the prewar model of 1936. It was affixed when I acquired the cap, so it stays.

Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
What I believe to be another private hat maker's work. It is very well made in accordance with typical German quality.
The star is very interesting,. It is a two piece example made years after the typical Soviet made two-piece model was discontinued and, unlike it's Soviet made counterparts, it is painted, rather than finished in high quality enamel.

Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
This is an absolutely impressive display of German-made caps and stars! German-produced reparation items (especially cap stars) became also a passion for me - needless to say, this happened after reading about your researches..
I am particularly interested, as you mentioned, into the chinstraps. Some are really very particular, both in terms of material, measures and in how the "interact" with the cap star itself.
I am also very interested in hearing what maked you think that the BBC cockade is a German made one - I particularly like those and am working since some time to categorise the different know variants.
As for the other German made stars, I owe the pilotka one, while am on the hunt since years for the very interesting painted two-pieces star. So far I was able to get only one photo of that star. Now, thanks to you, I can look at it in its actual habitat

Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
The quality of the metal and the die work is much more detailed than typical production. I have noticed these characteristics in pogoni stars and other stamped metal cockardes. Also note the the wings are "swept up" - unlike the typical variations of the era.GC* ha scritto: I am also very interested in hearing what maked you think that the BBC cockade is a German made one.

I have seen that particular star at some point in the past...
I am curious to see the reverse.

An impressive gallery Richie! The chemical troops stuff is almost a chimera!
Re: Postwar "Reparation" German-Made Caps
A great piece!
But what about that hole/damage in the upper part of the cap?
Just damage or the place where a cap badge of some sort used to be hanged (something that of course, would not make any sense in relation to Chemical Troops..)?
