Swedish Communist Badges

Most European countries had their own communist party and youth organization. So did Sweden. Many/most of them they were also heavily influenced by the "motherlands" insignia when it came to designing their own badges. Swedish badges were no exception to this rule, borrowing the Komsomol badges form.

I will post three badges, all from the youth organization SKU (Svenska Kommunistiska Ungdomsförbundet / Swedish Communist Youth Association). All made by the company Sporrong.

The first one is the standard SKU membership badge. Often you find them without maker mark, but they are definitely Sporrong.

Second is the rarest one of the three, for every 30 ex of the standard membership badges you will only find one of these. It's the merit badge of the SKU. Medals were seen as a symbol of the monarchy and government, so not many Swedish communist medals.

Third and last is a badge for the KUI (Kommunistiska Ungdoms Internationalen / Young Communist International) or Comintern youth section.

It would be nice if we could make a thread about all the komsomol clone badges of the world.

The only other badge I have is for the Norwegian youth organisation NKU, but that is a diffrent design. Nice but not quite the Sporrong quality.

If you find an extra FGCI badge let me know.

This is an incredibly interesting topic to me. If I had less discipline (and for some strange reason in this case I seem to have enough) I would have already started hunting down as many Komsomol-like badges as possible!

Needless to say dear Kimt, your integrations are, as usual, stunning and supremely interesting. Also, I do agree we would need to try on posting as many "Komsomol-clones" as possible. Let's start right here and if we reach enough critical mass I'll take care to get together a separate topic, so to leave both your presentation of Swedish badges and what will hopefully me a rather world-wide topic!

Lo, let's start with some badges (all not mine, clearly..):

Late period Italia FGCI badge (earlier on these were enamelled just as your Swedish ones).

It is worth noting that n Italy in the 1950s while Communists and Socialists were still allied, also the Young Socialists adopted a Komsomol-like logo, but I am not sure any badges with this design exist..

Moving on to Germany, we find a badge and belt buckle of the national section of the Communist Youth International (just like your KUI badge, Kimj):

And finally here, the belt buckle (these existed in this one single type, in the sense that the round central medallion was, as far as I know, produced in this single version and was then mounted on all sorts of buckles):

GC*: Yes, the problem with collecting is holding the line. Too much nice stuff to distract the poor collector. Comsomol-clones is a perfect topic for an international forum. I hope we see much more action with pictures and info. Sadly I have no more badges to show.

filo: Your badge is for the Palestinian Fatah youth movment, Shabibet Fatah. Who the guy is I don't know, doesn't look like Arafat...

For me I'll always think of my trips to the Baltics and my collector friends overthere when I think of KIM-badges. As my first namne is Kim they always said we got to get you the badge with your name. But back in the day I was more into uniforms and military awards. Guess I need to make up for lost time now....
