The earlier Soviet made medals were made of gold-plated silver. I believe that later Mongolian production medals issued in the post Peple's Republic period are made in solid gold, but I have never seen one.

Interestingly, that unlike it's Soviet counterpart this medal was never awarded twice to the same person.
