Sergeant Vasily Mefodyevich Bakulevsky

He was born on March 26, 1912 in the village of Olgopol , Chechelnik Raion , Vinnytsia Oblast , Ukraine.
His parents were farmers , workers in a collective farm after the revolution , with grain harvesters .
He studied high school and attended Odessa Accounting Department , working in the food industry between 1935 and 1938 , where he also learned Russian as a second language. During this period he married and had two sons .
He joined the Red Army in October 1939 . There he became a cadet in the school of signals in the Transcaucasian Military District . He graduated in October 1940 and was assigned to the School of Infantry Uryupinsk as a musician . In November 1941 he was appointed First Sergeant in 1163 Rifle Regiment , 345th Rifle Division, which took part in the defense of Sevastopol. The January 31, 1942 he was wounded in the left cheekbone , breakin the molar bone and damaging his eyes , so he had to be withdrawn from frontline service .

In February 1942, ill and nearly a year later , in January 1943 , was withdrawn from frontline service .
The rest of the conflict served in the 4th Ukrainian Front , in administrative tasks , due to the aftermath of their injuries. On March 8, 1945 receives the Combat Service Medal , for his life during the war , serving in Poland and Czechoslovakia.

After the war , he was unemployed due to his illness and the aftermath of the war , until in August 1947 began working as a financial inspector in the Ministry of Finance, in his hometown of Olgopol .
