Just compare the two photos: explain to me why they choose the worst picture of this guy, unshaved with bums clothes? A russian hero should sound like a bum (remember the Armaggedon movie

I think the foreign press called him a hero. In the Soviet Union it has had great problems for failing to meet the strict protocol

As far as I know, he was awarded the order of Service to the Armed Forces of the USSR 3rd class, so I would not say that he "has had great problems for failing to meet the strict protocol".

He has been promoted to another mission far away from missile silo commanding... in order to hide the technical failure. But his career doesn't seem to have been broken.
