The Suvorov Military Schools are a type of boarding school in the former Soviet Union for boys of 14–18. Education in these schools focuses on military related subjects. The schools are named after Alexander Suvorov, the 18th century general.
The Suvorov and Nakhimov school models were created during the Second World War in December 1943 to provide boys of school age, particularly those from families of military personnel, with a secondary education specializing in military (army, navy, intelligence, etc.) subjects and training. Boarding school aspect was particularly important at the time because many students were war orphans, who were either without parents or with only a surviving mother, unable to support them.

When I understand it right, before 1958 was the city name of the school written on the badge and after 1958 only CBY.

Schools were in the city´s of:
Kubischev
Kasan
Kawkas
Kiev
Kalinin
Leningrad
Moscow
Minsk
Orenburg
Saratov
Swerdlowsk (Jekaterinenburg)

Alfred,
I only have an old, original CBY Pobeda, but I always thought the name badges are unofficial...

This is the last version I thought.

Some more Information I found on the russian Internet from wikipedia.
https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D1 ... 1%89%D0%B5

In 1943, 11 schools were opened: Krasnodar (in Maikop ), Novocherkassk, Stalingrad (in Astrakhan ), Voronezh, Kharkov (in Chuguev ), Kursk, Kalinin, Orlovskoye (in Yelets ), Stavropol, Tashkent , Kutaisi (the latter two - the NKVD , Later - the Ministry of Internal Affairs , for children of border guards); In 1944 - 6 schools: Kazan, Kuibyshev, Gorky, Saratov, Tambov, Tula, in 1953 - Minsk, in 1955 - Leningrad [6] .

In 1975 in the USSR there were 8 schools: Kazan, Kalinin, Kiev (formerly Kharkov), Leningrad, Minsk, Moscow (former Gorky), Sverdlovsk and Ussuri (former Kursk).

Transforming schools
In 1946 the Stalingrad IED was relocated to the town of Chkalov (now Orenburg ); The Kutaisi SVU of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was relocated to Leningrad and named the Leningrad MVD of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (disbanded in 1960 ).
In 1947 Krasnodar IED was relocated to Dzaudzhikau (since 1954 - Ordzhonikidze , since 1990 - Vladikavkaz ) and named the North Caucasus IED; Kharkov IED was relocated to Kiev and named Kiev IED.
In 1947 Orel IED was relocated to Sverdlovsk and named Sverdlovsk IED; The North Caucasus IED has been transformed into the Caucasian Red Banner IED.
In 1953 the Minsk IED was formed.
In 1955, the Leningrad Suvorov Military Officer was formed twice the Red Banner School.
In 1956, the Gorky IED was relocated to Moscow and named the Moscow IED.
In 1957 the Kursk SVU was relocated to the Voroshilov-Ussuriisky Primorsky Territory and named the Far East IED; The Stalingrad IED was renamed the Chkalovsk IED.
In 1958 the Chkalovsky IED was renamed Orenburg IED.
In the period from 1960 to 1964, 8 IEDs were closed: Saratov, Tambov, Tula, Orenburg, Stavropol, Novocherkassk, Kuibyshev and Voronezh, and 2 MVU MVD: Leningrad and Tashkent.
In 1964, the Far East IED was renamed the Ussuriyskaya IED.
In 1965, the Caucasian Red Banner IED was renamed Ordzhonikidzevsky IED.
In 1968 Ordzhonikidzevsky IED was disbanded.

I am not sure about these badges. No mint mark, no producer on the screw plate

Maybe some were made in the 90´s as souvenir badges from craftsmen.

Here is an older one: At least I think so.

A very interesting topic, gentlemen! I did not pay too much attention to these schools in the past, and finally I discover they were Institutes of secondary education rather than alternatives to Academy. Another attractive theme for serial-collectors... [50

Andreas,

In a nutshell, the article says that there has been only one badge officially approved by the Ministry of Armed Forces in 1958 for the Suvorov (No 2335) and Nakhimov (No 2336) schools.
Those made earlier by Pobeda with the school name (No 2321 to 2334) existed in 2 varieties (silver or gold wreath) but were never officially approved and simply made their way to the collecting community (note that the school name was struck in one piece with the badge. Those with an added nameplate are later fantasy pieces).
The badges No 2337 to 2341 are fantasy pieces.

Many thanks Marc,

that explains everything.
In 25 years of collecting I never saw a schoolbadge with name struck in one piece with the badge.

best regards from Cologne

Marc, I think that the term "fantasy piece" may be misleading. At least it was to me, since it suggested that these badge were made at a later moment in time, possibly very recently, with the only purpose to milk the collectors. In this case, it would have been very strange that AVERS wasted their time in publishing such fakes.
My understanding is that (some of) these badges were off-norm, personalised variation commissioned and promoted by school organisations or student associations and therefore not official. Those with the School name on seems having been proposed by Pobeda and for some reasons not allowed or rejected, and therefore left circulating for the collectors' market (in USSR, I suppose).
I have tried to translate the text on page 487 of the AVERS and this is what I've got:

"Initially, boys and girls of the age of ten were admitted to SVU and NMU. The term of study is 7 years.
Since 1964, the schools are completed by young men of 15-16 years, and the term of training is reduced to two years.
In the 1960s, part of the IEDs and NMUs were disbanded. By 1975, there were eight IEDs (Kazan, Kalinin, Kiev, Leningrad, Minsk, Moscow, Sverdlovsk and Ussuri) and one NMU (Leningrad).
In the 50 years for the graduates of IED in the factory "Victory" was made a lot of signs with the name of the school. Signs were of two varieties: "for the ending" (a wreath of silver) and "for the ending with honors" (a wreath of gilded). These signs were not approved and diverged among the collectors [?]. They were made of brass. Fastening screw.
A single sign for IED was established by the Order of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR No.151 of August 18, 1958 (see n.2335).
In the same year, by order of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR No. 179 dated September 24, a sign was also established for the graduates of the NMU (see n.2336).
In addition to the official sign, graduates of various IEDs and NMUs ordered unofficial commemorative signs about the graduation from the school
(See nos. 2337 - 2341)."

Rocket,

That is a pretty good translation you have done [264

I used the term "fantasy" to qualify pieces that were never produced officially according to the order of the official body in charge, and let's not forget in addition that we are talking about a country with a strictly planned economy). I agree that some of these may have been produced "back then", but I am also convinced that many of these issues kept being produced (and still are).

I agree with you, Marc. We all know how the production of "antique" USSR memorabilia is still going full steam after decades from the fall of the USSR...
